IMPORTANT ISLANDS:

Island /ˈaɪlənd/ or isle /ˈaɪl/ is any piece of sub-continental land that is surrounded by water. Very small islands such as emergent land features on atolls can be called islets, skerries, cays or keys. An island in a river or a lake island may be called an eyot or ait, or a holm. A grouping of geographically or geologically related islands is called anarchipelago, e.g. the Philippines.

An island may be described as such despite the presence of an artificial land bridge, for example Singapore and itscauseway, or the various Dutch delta islands, such as IJsselmonde. Some places may even retain "island" in their names for historical reasons after being connected to a larger landmass by a wide land bridge, such as Coney Islandor Coronado Island. Conversely, when a piece of land is separated from the mainland by a man-made canal, for example the Peloponnese by the Corinth Canal, it is generally not considered an island.

There are two main types of islands: continental islands and oceanic islands. There are also artificial islands

of Pacific Ocean.

BORNEO ISLAND:

This is the 3rd largest Island in the World.

This is located in the North of Australia.

This island is divided among three countries Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.

About 73% is present in Indonesia.

MADAGASCAR ISLAND:

This is located in the Indian Ocean.

This is a part of African Continent.

This is the largest Island in the Indian Ocean.

This is the 4th largest Island in the World.

SRI LANKA:

This is locates in the Indian Ocean.

This is the second largest Island in the Indian Ocean.

This was known as Ceylon until the year 1972.

BAFFIN ISLAND:

This is located within the territory of Canada.

This is the 5th largest Island in the World.

NEW ZEALAND:

This is located in the Pacific Ocean.

North Island and the South Island are the two main land masses of New Zealand.

 Tasman Sea separates Australia and New Zealand.

CORSICA ISLAND:

This is located in Mediterranean Sea.

This is located to the West of Italy.

This is one of the regions of France.

SICILY ISLAND:

This is located in Mediterranean Sea.

This is the largest Island in the Mediterranean Sea.

This is the ninth largest island in the World.

This is the largest of all the European islands.

 There are 8 main islands in this group.

 Initially it was called Sandwich Islands.
